Editing Video Blocks
Video blocks let you embed Vimeo or YouTube videos on your website with optional overlay content. They're great for promotional videos, event highlights, or welcome messages.
Creating a Video Block
- Navigate to the Blocks section in the left-hand menu.
- Click + Block.
- Select the Video style.
- Enter a title and click Create.
Editing Your Video Block
Adding a Video
- hail accepts 2 types of video links: Vimeo or YouTube. (you cannot upload a video into Hail directly)
- Enter the video ID or URL.
The video will embed directly on your website and play when visitors interact with it.
Content Overlay
You can add optional content that displays alongside or over the video:
- Title -A heading displayed on the video block.
- Description -Supporting text below the title.
- Link - A "See More" button linking to a related article, publication, or external URL.
The link button uses your organisation's colour for a consistent look.
Spacing
Choose between: - Standard — Default padding around the block - fullwidth — Block sits edge-to-edge with no padding
Block Settings
In the sidebar you can edit:
- Title - show or hide options
- Description
At the bottom of the edit screen, you can see any locations where the block is currently in use.
Tips
- Use the Full-width variant for hero-style video sections that make a strong visual impact.
- The Half-width variants work well when you want to pair a video with a description or call to action.
- Keep videos short and engaging - visitors are more likely to watch a 1–2 minute video than a 10-minute one.
