Sending Resubscribe Requests

Sometimes subscribers unsubscribe by accident, change their minds, or you've changed something and want to invite them back. Hail Mail's resubscribe request feature lets you safely and respectfully offer unsubscribed contacts the option to rejoin your mailing lists.

What Are Resubscribe Requests?

A resubscribe request is a special email sent to unsubscribed contacts that:

• Explains you'd like them to consider rejoining your mailing list
• Provides a secure link to a resubscription page
• Lets them choose which specific lists to rejoin
• Expires after 7 days for security
• Respects their choice if they ignore it

Important: This feature is only for unsubscribed contacts. It does not work for bounced or complained subscribers (see "Unbouncing and Uncomplaining Subscribers" for those - TODO add links).

How Resubscribe Requests Work

The Process

1. You send the request - Select unsubscribed contacts and send the resubscribe request
2. They receive an email - Secure email with a unique link valid for 7 days
3. They click the link - Opens a page showing available lists
4. They choose lists - Select which lists to rejoin (or ignore and stay unsubscribed)
5. They confirm - Click confirm to resubscribe to selected lists
6. They're resubscribed - Added back to chosen lists and marked as active

Sending a Resubscribe Request

Step-by-Step

1. Navigate to Hail Mail > Your Subscribers
2. Filter to show Unsubscribed subscribers
3. Find the subscriber you want to invite back
4. Click the action menu (information "i" icon) next to their name
5. Select Send Resubscribe Request
6. Review the resubscribe request form
7. Choose which lists to include in the request
8. Click Send Resubscribe Request

What Happens: - An email is immediately sent to the subscriber - The request is saved with a 7-day expiration - You'll see confirmation the request was sent

What the Subscriber Sees

The Resubscribe Request Email

The email they receive includes:

• Subject line indicating it's a resubscribe opportunity
• Message explaining they previously unsubscribed
• Secure link to the resubscription page
• Clear statement that ignoring the email means staying unsubscribed
• Expiration notice (7 days)

The Resubscription Page

When they click the link, they see:

• List of mailing lists you've offered them
• Checkbox next to each list
• "Confirm Resubscription" button
• Option to close and stay unsubscribed

Limitations and Considerations

Can't Send To

• Bounced subscribers (use unbounce instead)
• Complained subscribers (use uncomplain instead)
• Deleted subscribers
• Active subscribers
